On Being Homesick

Home Sweet Home

This weekend was my first real homesick experience being gone this semester. It started while I was in Paris. For those of you that don't know, I grew up right outside of Washington D.C. which happens to be planned after the city plans of Paris. The first pangs of wanting to be home came when we were on a tour bus around the city. We came to an intersection that I double-took because it looked extremely similar to not only just an intersection in DC but also a JBG building. It hit me pretty suddenly and took me definitely by surprise.

Here are my theories on why I got so homesick:

  1. Paris reminds me a LOT of DC
  2. I was consistently tired this weekend from lots of traveling and very long days of tourism
  3. I missed the Extravaganza up at school (only the greatest dance of the entire year)
  4. Superbowl Sunday without a big party, and NO American commercials!!! (we looked them up online to get our fill)
  5. Hormones
  6. Just a general missing of everyone
  7. Lack of puppy

Not to mention next Friday is my Mother's birthday and I miss my family greatly.
HAPPY BIRTHDAY MOMMA!

So I'm a Horrible Blogger

Needless to say, I don't blog all that much. How is it that it's been about 2 weeks since my last post?! I've done a whole bunch of the tourist stuff and had some great craic and crazy times. I made some more great friends and came to absolutely LOVE my housemates Kailey and Monique even more than I did before :)

In picture view, here's what I've been up to::

Ya know, like ya do :P

Now for what's happening this weekend: I'm going to PARIS!

It's a crazy thing to think I'll be in that city as of 10am Paris time Friday morning!
The plan::
7pm Leave Galway
9pmish Arrive in Dublin
4am Leave for Airport
10am Arrive in PARIS!
traipsing traipsing Eiffel Tower traipsing Louvre traipsing Versailles traipsing Notre Dame
Sunday afternoon- Fly to Dublin
Bus to Galway
730pm Home Sweet Gort Na Coiribe <3

then......

SUPERBOWL SUNDAY
yup. Not exactly caring as much about the game, but it's tradition and it'll make me feel like home :) Gotta get the chips, salsa, queso, and plenty of Coke!

Well. All for now.

Highlights

So after a whirlwind first day on Tuesday, we got up yesterday (at 3pm, the 13ish hours of sleep was awesome) and took a taxi up to my dorm and I got all set up in my dorm. It is awesome. By calling it apartment they really mean townhouse basically! I met my roommate

and one of the girls who live down stairs from us, my roommate and I are on the 3rd floor and it's just the two of us and our bathroom.
We have a pretty awesome house. The first floor has a half bath and a bedroom that's locked so I don't know what's in it :P along with a full kitchen, table with chairs, 2 couches and a tv. Pretty nifty!

Second floor has 3 singles and a full bath, and then the third floor has our double and our full. :)

We (Berry Monique and I) went shopping after
that to get some food which was pretty cool and had a bunch of brands I had never seen which is always cool because I'm a marketing major :P

We had a bit of a meeting then went back to the house (me, Monique, and Micaela) and had some wine and chatted all about our lives. It was pretty great! Another friend that doesn't live with us, Syndey, also came over for that.

This morning we got up and met the group at 9 to walk over to campus and see the shortest way to get there. Somewhat of a blustery morning but it hasn't rained so far today! (Oh, yesterday it was POURING, like all day)
After Orientation we came back and then met up with Berry at the mall which was fun and I got a new phone! WOO! yups. That is all for now and we're going out to dinner with the group in about an hour so I'll put something more up later maybe :P
